Adapting an original book from author Patrick Sueskind into a screenplay is a challenge in itself; Further capturing a world of scent through the translation of film is truly an ART. In a sick twisted passion filled thriller Tom Tykwer portraits an obsession filled anti-hero Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw) and his ever growing addiction towards the ability to preserve scent. A culmination of intense imagery (cinematographer Frank Griebe) laced with a timely musical score (by Reinhold Heil, Johnny Klimek and Tom Tykwer) tell a unique story of love, passion, and a drive to be “somebody”. If you want to experience a very different “story of a murderer”, this tale will stay with you ironically like that of someone else’s perfume.
